The range of Queenstown activities is absolutely fantastic. You could stay in Queenstown for a month and not run out of new things to see and do. One of the most popular activities in the Queenstown region is skiing and snowboarding. There are four major ski resorts within easy reach of Queenstown and also several smaller ones. Coronet Peak is the closest and it has a sealed road almost right to the service center. There are plenty of chairlifts, ski hire and a fantastic restaurant complex with the most sensational view in the world. Cardrona is another and possibly the region’s most popular destination for intermediate skiers. Treble Cone is where the experts go and many Olympic skiers from the USA and Europe train here during the southern winter. The Remarkables is close to Queenstown and even has a free shuttle bus service from the middle of town. There is also heli-skiing and cross country skiing available. Heli-skiing adventures can take you to pristine slopes well into the main range, where you can make fresh tracks in undisturbed powder snow.
Thrill seekers come to Queenstown to experience fantastic activities like bungee jumping, jet boat riding and para-flying along with quad bike riding and skidoo adventures. This is the bungee jumping capital of the world and the A J Hackett company has been doing it for decades. They have the highest and the best jumps in New Zealand as well as a brilliant safety record. The Shotover River gorge is the venue for the adrenaline pumping jet boat rides that venture through awe inspiring river chasms, past vertical rock walls at incredible speeds.
Any day in the Queenstown district can be spent in the wonderful activity of wining and dining. There is a fantastic array of restaurants, cafés, wineries and eateries throughout the region. The wines grown here are world class cold climate wines and one red from this district was recently voted the best red wine in the world. Why not combine a cruise on beautiful Lake Wakatipu aboard the historic steamship "Earnslaw" and visit Walter Peak station for a sensational buffet dinner and enjoy a choice of the regions fantastic food and wines. There are also many other activities that you can indulge in. One of these is a day tour through fantastic mountain scenery to visit Milford Sound or The Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers, which are all on the nearby west coast. Many of the tours and activities that are available in Queenstown have door to door pick up services from your accommodation.
